Adults

Individual Therapy

We offer individual therapy services for Adults, Teens, and Adolescents.

Beginning therapy is a step of hope by clients who are looking for relief, change, and support. Given the complexity of peoples’ lives, we treat adults in a number of different areas.

Adolescents & Teens

The adolescent and teenage years can be a turbulent time. It can seem like stress and anxiety are hiding behind every corner. Avoidance, withdrawal or acting out are common ways to deal with this stress. Clinicians at Infinite Mindcare have specific training to work with teenagers to discuss difficult issues, build coping skills, and develop behavioural interventions.

We treat a range of issues using evidence based practice, see Who we treat

What to Expect

Getting to know the client is at the cornerstone of therapy so that all interventions can be individualised to meet the specific needs of the person or family. At the first session, your clinician may want to meet with parents as well as the young person. We try to honour having some space for the young person to talk independently, as well as hearing from you about concerns you are having.

It is important for the parent to understand that if the adolescent/teen is over the age of 14, information regarding specifics of therapy sessions do not have to be shared with the parent, and can be kept at the same level of confidentiality as with adults. It is always encouraged by the therapist to have open communication with a parent(s) however it is not necessarily a part of treatment. With some issues, young people can feel most comfortable opening up, if it’s just the presence of the therapist. However if there are any concerns about risk or safety, we will share that with parents.

Couples

Couples Counseling

We have a passion for seeing individuals, couples and families establish and restore healthy relationships. We do that by using a variety of approaches, most notably, The Gottman Method.

Couples counseling will consist of a 3 session assessment process. The first will be the initial session where we discuss the reasons for therapy, examine the relationship, and the current communication style. The second will be for understanding each client’s perspective, wants, and needs. Client’s will be asked to individually complete a thorough online assessment at home. During the third session the therapist will discuss the findings from the previous sessions, and with the clients create a plan for going forward.

What is Neurofeedback Training (NFT)?

The activity in one’s brain determines everything you feel and do. While most people have normal brain function, they still have brain imbalances or chronic emotions that affect their lives. When these strong emotions and unhealthy behaviors become resistant to changes this is when NFT can help. NFT is a way to train brain activity, it is essentially biofeedback for the brain. To understand NFT first we need to understand the basics of brainwaves and their function. Brainwaves are the electrical impulses produced as your brain cells communicate with one another. Brain waves tell us a great deal about how you feel and function; your thought habits, stress levels, underlying mood and overall brain function.

Neurofeedback is a therapeutic intervention that presents the client with real-time feedback on brainwave activity using an EEG device. Supported by over 50 years of clinical research trials, combining Somatic Therapy & Neurofeedback is a safe and effective treatment for the most common mental health concerns. By correcting the underlying cause of the concern, neurofeedback clients report long-lasting reduction of symptoms associated with PTSD, depression, addiction and many more. By retraining the brain, neurofeedback offers a drug free & noninvasive treatment option that compliments traditional therapist-guided treatment plans.
Much as physical exercises develops muscles, the more your brain is exercised into reaching a comfortable, the more efficient it becomes. Once the brain is trained back to a more relaxed or less fearful state it tends to stay there.

What is the process?

1. Symptom Evaluation

To begin with, we make an in-depth evaluation of where you are, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

2. Run a Brain Map

Wearing a tightly fitted cap with electrodes on specific points, we will record an image of the brain using a qEEG, also known as brain mapping. This non-invasive process involves recording your brainwaves for 5-10 minutes eyes open and 5-10
minutes with eyes closed.

3. Analyze Results

Your brain recording is uploaded to a database and compared to similar individuals with healthy brain activity. Cognitive and emotional issues are identified, as well as irregular brainwave patterns. Customized training protocols are created to show the areas of the brain to train into healthy patterns.

4. Neurofeedback Sessions

Training sessions are usually 60 minutes and pleasant. There are several feedback options including calming scenic videos or playing a video game with your “brain”.
